The 35TH Hallowed Chamber of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU, Ago Iwoye Students’ House of Senate has accused the former SUG President, Comrade Feyi & others of there alleged planned to stalled the forthcoming SUG Election.
In a memo released and duly signed by the Senate President, Dist. Sen. Adetunji Faith Pelumi known as Sen. Alfa and also signed by the Clerk of the House, Sen. Adekunle Samuel Adeshina pka Sen. Peller accused the former union president, Comrade Adeogun Feyisetan and his cohort of allegedly using there influences to cause disruption in the Union ahead of the upcoming SUG Election.
The Students’ House of Senate however called on the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Ayodeji Johnson Olayinka Agboola to permit the ongoing transition process to proceed unhindered and to enable the duly constituted electoral commission to fulfill their responsibilities in strict accordance with the Union Constitution as the Students’ Senate House we resist any attempts to prolong the election for the new executives.

STATEMENT BY THE SENATE, 35TH HALLOWED CHAMBER, OLABISI ONABANJO UNIVERSITY, STUDENTS’ UNION GOVERNMENT, STUDENTS’ HOUSE OF SENATE REGARDING THE DISSOLUTION OF FEYI LED ADMINISTRATION AND CONSTITUTION OF INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSION 2022/2023 ACADEMIC SESSION*
On Wednesday the 23rd of August 2023, the OOUSUG Students’ House of Senate issued a notice regarding the dissolution of the 2021/2022 academic session SUG administration, led by Comrade Adeogun Feyisetan. This dissolution was scheduled for Thursday the 31st of August, 2023.
On August 31, 2023, the Senate convened, ensuring a quorum in accordance with Section 17 (b) of OOUSUG Constitution 2012, which mandates a two-thirds majority for a quorum. The session proceeded according to the agenda, and the dissolution of the 2021/2022 SUG administration was executed following a motion that received unanimous support from all Senators present.
Sequel to this the constitution of the electoral commission commenced and the Senate President who is the chair of the sitting opened the floor for nomination from all constituencies , every constituency raised their nominations which was taken by the Clerk of the Senate, a point of order under order (b) which states “Intention to refer to standing order and/or a clause of the constitution” was raised by Sen. Billos from Ayetoro constituency where he refers to section 68 of the constitution which explicitly talks on INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSION of the Union he noted that the House should not allow Students who their portal are not active for the session from being nominated in the ECO as it’s against the principles of membership of the Union under section 2 (1) i which states “An ordinary member shall be a registered Student of the University running a full time programme and who has paid the required Union dues.”
Laying emphasis on “he must be a registered student of the university and he must have paid the required union dues which means only an active student who has paid school fees for the session and duly registered his courses should be permitted to be nominated”, the Senate in this instance ask for a second and the motion was seconded and put to vote.
The voting results showed 36 YES out of the 57 Senators in attendance and 21 others abstained from voting by voting Abstain in that regard the Senate President ruled in favor of the majority votes and passed a resolution that only Students that meets the requirements stated above should be allowed to be in the Independent Electoral Commission and Petition Electoral Commission.
In that regard a particular Sen. Gbera and Sen. Mattinex from SOSSA Constituency were disqualified and Sen.Oye from FAMS Constituency was disqualified on that basis. The SOSSA Constituency was given a privilege to renominate as they have no nominations as their two nominations submitted earlier have been rejected on the basis of not meeting the requirements of the Constitution.
Sen. Mattinex from SOSSA who happened to be one of the rejected nominations thanked the leadership of the Senate for ruling in the interest of the Students quoting him verbertism he said “Mr. President, I’ll remark that this is the very first time I’m pleased with your ruling as it is in the best interests of our students, it is time to give the Union back to active students and let them decide for themselves”
THE Petition Electoral Committee was also constituted on that basis.
Additionally, the Petition Electoral Committee was constituted based on these criteria.
BRIEF FROM MEETING WITH THE VICE CHANCELLOR TODAY
Concerning a meeting with the Vice Chancellor, it was convened without prior communication of its purpose.
During this meeting, the Vice Chancellor presented a petition submitted by Senators Gbera and Oye, alleging a violation of the law.
Following extensive discussions and counterarguments, the Vice Chancellor decided that he’ll consult with Faculty Presidents and Speakers to gather their opinions on the matter.
THE POSITION OF THE 35TH HALLOWED CHAMBER
In my capacity as the former Senate President, I find it disconcerting that individuals who may have close political affiliations with the University management have utilized their influence to disrupt our Union Government.
Furthermore, it is disappointing to note that Comrade Adeogun Feyisetan, a former Union President, is involved in these disruptive efforts. The Constitution is explicit in defining the authority responsible for constituting the Independent Electoral Commission and the role of the Law Judiciary Council as the Union’s court of first instance.
I earnestly implore the Vice Chancellor to permit the ongoing transition process to proceed unhindered and to enable the duly constituted electoral commission to fulfill their responsibilities in strict accordance with the Union Constitution.
Timely transition is paramount, and we must resist any attempts to prolong the election for the new executives, similarly the transitional administration being perpetrated by Comrade FEYI and his cohorts will not stand will be resisted by all and sundry.
My commitment to upholding the principles of unionism remains unwavering during my tenure. Let us continue to collaborate diligently for the betterment of our Union.
