OOU: Management Approves SUG Election Calendar as CEC Election Holds September 28

In a significant move towards promoting student representation and democracy on campus, the management of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye in Ogun State has officially approved the Election Calendar for the upcoming 36th Student Union Government Executives.

This was contained in the memo signed by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Comrade Oowe as Approved by the Dean of the Student Affairs, PROF. R.K ODUNAIKE who announced the approved timetable to the university community.

The Election Calendar which includes key dates for the campaign periods, and, of course, the election of both the SUG CEC & the SHS itself is to maintain the integrity of the election process and uphold the principles of democracy.

THE APPROVED TIMETABLE IS AS FOLLOWS:

1. Monday, 18/09/2023 – Electoral Screening by the ECO

2. Tuesday, 19/09/2023: Security Screening/Management screening

3. Wednesday, 20/09/2023: Manifesto Presentations by Aspirants.

4. Tuesday, 26/09/2023: Election Demo to familiarize students with the Voting Process.

5. Wednesday, 27/09/2023: Rectification of any issues arising from the demo.

6. Thursday, 28/09/2023: Student Central Executive Council (CEC) Election.

7. Friday, 29/09/2023: Students’ House of Senate Election.

According to Comr. Oowe, the dates marks a significant step in the journey towards ensuring a fair and transparent election process in the institution.

“We encourage all students to participate actively in this process, exercise their voting rights responsibly and engage with the candidates during the manifesto presentations. Your involvement is crucial in shaping the future leadership of the Student Union.”

“We reiterate our commitment to providing a peaceful and credible platform for aspirants to present their plans, students to exercise their right to vote and the overall election process to be carried out smoothly.”

However, All SHS aspirants are reminded to reach out to their Faculty Presidents/representatives to obtain their form. Likewise all CEC aspirants are to reach out to the Chairman of the commission to obtain their form towards there forthcoming election.
